The Queensland Mining Expo kicked off this
morning in glorious Mackay weather, with hundreds of guests through the gates
in the first couple of hours.
With all the latest in mining technology and
equipment on offer, the Expo caters to all aspects of the mining industry, from
exploration to export.
From 9am each day until Thursday, visors can go
to the Techlab between pavilion E and F to learn more about increasing
productivity with some of the latest development in mining technology
available.
At 10:30am today, RedEye Apps CEO Wayne Geard
will be speaking about how the convergence of cloud technology and mobile
computing has enabled the development of cost-effective and purpose-built solutions
for operational problems, using the first fully cloud-based and purpose-built
engineering drawing management solution for mining companies and their service
providers.
From 11am Atlas Copco’s automation manager
Adrian Boeing will address the increasing challenges faced by the coal
industry, due to declining resource base, pricing pressures and cost
constraints, and on site hazards.
Boeing will show how Atlas Copco’s latest
autonomous surface drilling and enhanced information systems are just some of the
key areas that the innovative Rig Control System delivers benefits to coal
mining operations.
Michael Sargaison from Sandvik’s fire
suppression department will outline the new landscape of changes in fire
safety in Queensland at 1pm, in relation to changes to the Environmental
Protection act as it relates to fire fighting foam.
Sargaison will speak on the requirements for end
users and OEM’s who install these systems on their customers machines, issues
with the current fire fighting foams, as well as the reasons for and direct
results of these policy changes now and into the future.
2pm will see Charl Kleinhans from Seimens tackle
the problem of Earth Fault Protection for Variable Speed Drive (VSD)
applications, focusing on Medium Voltage (MV) VSDs, with particular reference
to the multi-level topology of the Siemens Sinamics Perfect Harmony MV VSD in
the context of plant and personnel safety.
At 11am the QME Community Hub will host a safety
discussion panel, with Jason Andrews-Reid (Operations manager for QMRS), Rachel
Blee (A Miner’s Legacy), Mick Baker (National Safety Training and Environment
manager for Jenmar AUS) and Lainie Anderson (director of Mining Family
Matters).
The Queensland Government Innovation forum at
1:30pm will give visitors and exhibitors the opportunity to join the discussion
with industry leaders and innovators in the resources sector.
